CARES Act HEERF Allocation

The Federal Government has established the Higher Education Relief Fund (HEERF) under the CARES Act which was signed by President Trump on March 27, 2020. This fund will allow New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc.to provide emergency grants to students experiencing financial hardship specifically due to the disruption of campus operations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. has completed the Certification and Agreement for this funding with the assurance that we will use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide emergency grants for students. Here are some facts regarding this funding. 

Higher Education Emergency Relief Grants through Federal CARES Act

Application Deadline: 06/17/2020

Students experiencing expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19 are encouraged to apply for the Federal CARES Act Emergency Grant by completing a Student Certification Form. On June 11, 2020 New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. notified all students via email of the emergency funding that is available.

The process is as follows:

To be considered for assistance, students must be eligible for Title IV (federal) aid and enrolled in a Title IV eligible program. Students that do not have a FAFSA on file with New York School of Esthetics, must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to verify eligibility. Title IV includes eligibility for both Pell Grant AND Direct Loans.

Students who have not filed the FAFSA, but are eligible to file should do so immediately. Students are encouraged to submit the Student Certification Form that was emailed to them on June 10, 2020 as soon as possible.

Students applying for the Federal CARES Act Emergency Grant must be experiencing and certify a financial hardship related to COVID-19. Circumstances that created the financial hardship and additional expenses could include, but would not be limited to, the following:

Loss of job or reduction in work hours for student or parent.

Healthcare expenses

Technology expenses

Childcare expenses

Students may need assistance paying for Cost of Attendance (COA) items and must certify CARES Grant funds will be used for COA expenses related items due to the disruption of campus operations such as:

Food

Housing/utilities

Computer/technology

Unexpected healthcare expenses

Childcare 

Transportation

Awarding and Disbursing Emergency Grant Funds

The documented date used by New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. as the date a disruption to the campus environment occurred for Currently Attending students due to COVID-19 Pandemic is March 13, 2020Currently Attending by definition is a student in good standing, with recorded clock hours on or after this date through Distance Education.

Once the review is complete, students will receive an email from New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. regarding their grant eligibility. 

Eligibility 

Student must be eligible to revive Title IV (federal) financial aid in order to be approved for a federal Cares Ace grant. 

Title IV Eligibility includes:

US Citizen or eligible non-citizen

Met Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for the Spring 2020 semester.

You were enrolled as of March 13, 2020 (part or full time)

Not in default of any federal student loans

Have an official 2019-20 FAFSA on file and submitted any additional required documentation to the Student Financial Services Offices. 

The funding will not have an impact on your current or future financial aid eligibility. New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. will be required to report CARES Act grants in Box 5 of 2020 1098T’s. 

Federal Cares Act emergency grants do not need to be repaid.

Awarding and Disbursing Emergency Grant Funds

Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. 

Once the review is complete, students will receive an email from New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. regarding their grant eligibility.

1. New York School of Esthetics & Day Spa, Inc. signed and returned to the Department, the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a) (1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students on May 26, 2020.

2. The institution has determined that any student enrolled as of March 13, 2020 and was eligible for Title IV was deemed a participant for the CARES Act Grant Fund.
